Dormaahene leads Anti-Galamsey Task Force, arrests 3 persons in major crackdown

The Dormaahene, Osaagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II, has once again demonstrated his uncompromising stance in the fight against illegal mining (galamsey) within Dormaa lands. In a decisive operation carried out under his leadership, the Dormaa Anti-Galamsey Task Force, together with members of the Dormaa Traditional Council, stormed Dormaa-Akwamu, Akontanim, and Kobedi to clamp down on destructive mining activities threatening the environment and water bodies.

The operation, which took place over the weekend, led to the arrest of three individuals actively engaged in illegal mining. In addition, the team seized seven heavy-duty water pumping machines used by the miners in their operations. The confiscated equipment has since been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Speaking after the successful operation, the Dormaahene issued a stern warning to all individuals and groups engaging in galamsey on Dormaa stool lands. He emphasized that his traditional authority will not tolerate activities that destroy farmlands, pollute rivers, and deprive future generations of their inheritance.

“We cannot sit idly by while our lands and water bodies are destroyed in the name of illegal mining. Anyone caught indulging in galamsey on Dormaa lands will face the full weight of the law and the traditional council’s sanctions,” Osaagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II declared.

The Dormaahene further stressed that the war against illegal mining is not just a government responsibility but also a communal duty. He urged his people, particularly the youth, to resist the lure of quick money through galamsey and instead channel their energy into sustainable ventures such as farming, education, and entrepreneurship.

Residents of Dormaa-Akwamu, Akontanim, and Kobedi have expressed strong support for the Dormaahene’s actions, commending him for protecting the environment and safeguarding the future of the Dormaa State. Many community members believe that the decisive move will serve as a deterrent to others who may attempt to engage in the unlawful activity.

The Dormaahene’s intervention comes at a time when illegal mining remains a major national concern, with its devastating effects on arable land, cocoa farms, and critical water sources across the country. His leadership adds momentum to the broader national campaign to eliminate galamsey and restore Ghana’s ecological balance.

With the arrest of the culprits and the seizure of the equipment, the Dormaa Traditional Council has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting stool lands and ensuring that future generations inherit a safe,
