Adu-Boahene’s lawyer reveals Kan-Dapaah is ‘critical witness’ in GH¢49m cybersecurity saga

The ongoing trial of former National Signals Bureau Chief, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, has taken a dramatic turn after his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, disclosed that former National Security Minister Albert Kan-Dapaah is a “critical witness” in the case.

Mr. Adu-Boahene and his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, together with Mildred Donkor and Advantage Solutions Limited, are facing 11 charges, including stealing, money laundering, defrauding by false pretences, and wilfully causing financial loss to the state. The offences, according to the Attorney-General Dominic Ayine, amount to GH¢49 million.

Speaking in an interview with TV3, Mr. Atta Akyea confirmed he had personally spoken with Mr. Kan-Dapaah.

“He is a very critical individual in the matter; he has explained to me why my client did what he did,” the lawyer said, stressing that the explanation provided was “justifiable.”

The case, which probes the alleged diversion of state assets and confidential equipment under Adu-Boahene’s leadership, has attracted national attention due to its implications for Ghana’s security apparatus.

The Accra High Court is set to rule on October 17, 2025, on a stay of proceedings application filed by the defence team. If granted, the decision would temporarily halt the trial until an appeal against an earlier ruling is determined.

The defence argues that Mr. Adu-Boahene acted under the knowledge or instruction of his former superior, Mr. Kan-Dapaah, a claim that could significantly shape the case if upheld.

The outcome of the October 17 ruling is expected to determine whether the trial proceeds or pauses, as public scrutiny intensifies over accountability within Ghana’s security services.
