Security consultant Richard Kumadoe has cautioned that Ghana’s fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, will remain unresolved if it continues to be reduced to partisan politics.
Speaking on Citi FM’s The Big Issue on Saturday, September 13, Kumadoe stressed that rivalry between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) only undermines efforts to find lasting solutions.
“When you bring in politics between NDC and NPP, we are not going to resolve it,” he warned.
He noted that public frustration surrounding galamsey is often worsened by miscommunication and misinformation, which further inflames tensions.
“When it comes to this whole issue about galamsey, there is a lot of miscommunication and misinformation around it, and that is what is heightening the tension and the emotions about it,” Kumadoe explained.
The security expert urged stakeholders to focus on strengthening and adhering to existing legal and procedural frameworks, insisting that this is the most effective path toward sustainable solutions.
“So let’s allow the standard procedures to be followed as is being ascribed now,” he added.
