The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested Alhaji Sofo Azorka in connection with an alleged assault on Alhaji Masawudu Osman, the Third National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), during the Akwatia by-election on September 2, 2025.
In a statement issued on Friday, September 12, the police confirmed that Azorka was picked up in Tamale as part of ongoing investigations into the incident, which occurred on Wednesday, September 10.
According to the statement, a caution statement was taken from Azorka, after which he was granted bail.
He has been directed to report to the Eastern South Regional Police Command in Kyebi on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., where he will be arraigned before court.
“The police assures the public of a thorough investigation into the matter, hence entreats all to remain calm as further development shall be communicated,” the statement added.
