The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has revealed plans to embark on a demonstration on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in response to what it terms as politically motivated intimidation by the Ghana Police Service against its members.
The party’s National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha, made the announcement in a Facebook post on Friday, September 12.
This follows the remand of the NPP’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, by an Accra Circuit Court. He was ordered to remain in custody for two weeks to allow further investigations. Abronye was initially picked up on Monday, September 8, on charges of “offensive conduct likely to breach public peace” and has since been held in police custody.
Reacting to the situation, Salam Mustapha declared on Facebook: “On Tuesday, 23rd September, the National Youth Wing will stage a demonstration against the state-sponsored police intimidation. From Obra Spot to police headquarters. 6 a.m. sharp!”
Additionally, Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is also under investigation over alleged fraud, financial mismanagement, and money laundering. Other party members have reportedly been arrested at different times over separate cases.
The youth wing leadership insists the upcoming protest will attract massive support from party faithful and vowed to resist what it describes as politically driven actions by state authorities.
