Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Percival Kofi Akpaloo, has revealed that he is facing more than 20 charges from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) following his arrest earlier this month.
In an interview on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Friday, September 12, Akpaloo outlined the allegations leveled against him, ranging from misappropriation of funds and forgery to theft and willfully causing financial loss to the state.
He said some of the charges were tied to a road construction project in Goaso, Ahafo Region, with EOCO questioning whether the work had actually been carried out.
“They told me I had been arrested for misappropriation of funds, forgery, stealing, and causing financial loss to the State. Eventually, they said I did a job at Goaso in the Ahafo Region, and they believed I didn’t execute it but connived to dupe the State, so they needed to take me to the site,” Akpaloo recounted.
According to him, EOCO officials later visited the site and witnessed evidence of the completed work, with local residents also confirming his contribution.
Akpaloo, who was arrested at his Kumasi residence on September 3, 2025, was granted police bail under strict conditions — including a GH¢10 million bond with two sureties. He spent several days in EOCO custody before finally meeting the requirements and regaining his freedom on Thursday, September 11.
EOCO has since confirmed that investigations into the alleged financial crimes are ongoing, with Akpaloo cooperating while on bail.
