Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Percival Kofi Akpaloo, has insisted that the government is indebted to him for a road construction project in Goaso, Ahafo Region, even as he faces investigations by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Friday, September 12, Akpaloo rejected allegations of misappropriation of funds, forgery, theft, and causing financial loss to the state.
He clarified that the Goaso project was not financed with public funds, stressing that he personally funded the work.
“They [EOCO] themselves know that I’ve not committed any crime anywhere. I didn’t cause financial loss because the job I did, I used my own resources to build that road from scratch,” he said.
Akpaloo revealed that the government owes him GH₵4.5 million for the project, in addition to GH₵4 million of his own resources spent on materials to tile the road for the benefit of the community.
“Even aside the 4.5 million cedis the government owes me, I’ve used my own money and resources to buy materials worth 4 million cedis to tile the road for the people. They [government] haven’t paid me,” he emphasized.
The LPG leader was arrested at his Kumasi residence on September 3, 2025, and later granted police bail under strict conditions, including a GH₵10 million bond with two sureties. He spent several days in EOCO custody before meeting the requirements and securing his release on Thursday, September 11.
EOCO has confirmed that investigations into the alleged financial crimes remain ongoing, with Akpaloo cooperating with authorities while on bail.
