MASLOC Retrieves Three Gov’t Cars from Chairman Wontumi – CEO Confirms

The Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Abigail Elorm Mensah, has confirmed that three government vehicles have been retrieved from the residence of Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Wednesday, September 10, Mensah explained that the retrieval, carried out with support from National Security operatives, formed part of MASLOC’s ongoing initiative to recover government loans and vehicles from defaulters.

“I have gone with National Security operatives to the house of the Chairman of the NPP in Ashanti Region, Chairman Wontumi. Three cars. In fact, the cars were five. We’ve retrieved three. I have collected all from his house. We are still chasing him for the two. He has to pay for them,” she disclosed.

The MASLOC CEO stressed that under the Centre’s operational rules, any individual who fails to meet repayment obligations or misuses government vehicles is required to either return the assets or settle the outstanding debt.

“What we do is that once I seize the cars, the agreement we have with you is that you would have to repay whatever has accrued and we release the cars to you,” she clarified.

Mensah further revealed that several cases of asset misappropriation have been reported to the police as part of efforts to safeguard state property.

Citing another example, she noted a case involving a relative of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who allegedly refused to return a government vehicle after acquiring a personal one.

“I have a situation where a brother of former Vice President, Seidu Imoro, picks a car and he is bold to tell us that, ‘Well, I have used the car to work and I’ve bought my own, so if you want you could come for it.’ So we’ve seized it,” Mensah recounted.

She assured the public that MASLOC will continue to pursue all defaulters to protect government assets and ensure accountability.
