Otto Addo Not Fit to Lead Black Stars at 2026 World Cup – Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu

Former Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has expressed doubts over Otto Addo’s ability to lead the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, even as Ghana edges closer to qualification.

The Black Stars currently sit three points clear at the top of Group I of the CAF World Cup qualifiers, needing just one win from their final two games to book their ticket to the tournament.

Despite the team’s results on paper, performances under Otto Addo have come under scrutiny, with critics citing inconsistency and lack of tactical sharpness.

Speaking in an interview on Wontumi TV, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu questioned the coach’s capacity to guide the team on the world stage.

“I’m sure Ghana is going to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, but Otto Addo is not a coach who can lead us to the tournament,” he stated.

He acknowledged that Ghana’s main challenge in the qualifiers came from Mali, but with the Eagles’ slow start, their hopes of overtaking Ghana are slim.

“I see Mali as the strongest opponent in our group; unfortunately, they did not start the qualification series well. It is too late for them to secure qualification. For Madagascar, who are trailing us with 16 points, they can’t win the two remaining games,” he added.

Ghana’s recent victory over Mali has left them just one step away from qualification. Their next challenge is an away clash against the Central African Republic before wrapping up the campaign with a home game against Comoros in October.
