The government has announced that the long-awaited Nkoko Nkitinkiti Programme will officially be launched in the first week of October 2025.
The initiative, initially scheduled for July but postponed due to limited stakeholder engagement, seeks to reduce Ghana’s $300 million annual poultry import bill by boosting local production.
Speaking at the launch of the second phase of the West Africa Livestock Marketing Programme (PACBAO) in Accra, Minister of Food and Agriculture Eric Opoku assured farmers that preparations are nearing completion.
“Plans are at an advanced stage, and it is expected that by the first week of October, His Excellency the President will officially launch the programme. Distribution will then begin across constituencies to reach beneficiary farmers,” he said, noting that procurement processes and beneficiary lists are being finalized.
The Nkoko Nkitinkiti Programme is expected to serve as a flagship intervention to empower local poultry farmers, cut foreign exchange losses, and generate jobs, particularly for youth and women in rural areas.
