Tension erupted at Wesley Senior High School in Konongo, Ashanti Region, after some candidates violently attacked teachers for enforcing strict invigilation during the ongoing West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The chaos, which followed the Christian Religious Studies (CRS) paper, saw angry students pelting teachers with stones and sachet water, forcing them to flee for safety.
On the night of Sunday, September 7, 2025, the unrest escalated when a group of students launched a coordinated attack on the residence of the school’s senior house mistress, whom they accused of preventing exam malpractice.
The mob hurled heavy stones at her apartment, damaging the kitchen roof and destroying parts of her backyard garden, including cassava, maize, cocoyam, and plantain crops.
According to eyewitness accounts, the students had completed their exam on Friday but returned in their uniforms on Sunday to carry out the assault.
“One of the students secretly tipped us off about the attack. By the time we realised, a mob had already gathered at the school gate, vowing to harm us,” a teacher recounted.
Several staff members reportedly sustained injuries and sought medical attention.
The matter has since been reported to the police, who have heightened security around the school amid fresh threats by the students to stage another attack.
