Prof. Alidu Mahama Seidu, Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana’s Political Science Department, has called for unity within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after emerging winner of the party’s parliamentary primaries in Tamale Central.
The election, held on September 6 at the Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, was organised to choose a successor to the late MP, Alhaji Murtala Muhammed, who died in a helicopter crash.
Prof. Seidu secured 840 votes, defeating 11 other aspirants, including three women. His victory was met with congratulatory gestures from his contenders after the Electoral Commission declared the results.
In his remarks, Prof. Seidu urged his colleagues and their supporters to close ranks and work collectively to ensure victory for the NDC in the upcoming general elections.
“I think the way we have started, it is important we continue in this spirit of reconciliation and work together as a party to win the seat for the NDC,” he said.
