The Northern Regional Directorate of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued detailed guidelines for the upcoming Tamale Central parliamentary primary, set for Saturday, September 6, 2025.
In a notice signed by Dr. Arnold Mashud Abukari, Director of Elections and IT, voting is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. and close at exactly 2:00 p.m. The election will make use of four ballot boxes, each designated for a particular electoral area. Delegates will be required to present QR-code-enabled tags containing their details, along with an additional form of identification such as a voter ID, Ghana Card, or NDC membership card.
Security will be tight, with about 250 joint security officers deployed to maintain order. Observers will be restricted to the supporters’ stands and will not be allowed into the inner perimeter without prior clearance. Candidates will be permitted to assign four agents to each ballot box, though only one agent will be allowed to sign the final collation sheet. Additionally, each candidate may enter the inner perimeter with two accredited representatives.
Delegates will not be allowed to carry mobile phones into the voting booths, while candidates are prohibited from transporting delegates or campaigning within the voting grounds.
Polling stations have been assigned based on electoral areas:
- Polling Station 1: Regional and constituency executives, plus delegates from Agric Mohiyebihi, Gumbihini North, and Aboaboo Ward.
- Polling Station 2: Delegates from Moshi-Zongo, Tishigu, Salamba, ADB, Warizihi, and Gumbihini South.
- Polling Station 3: Delegates from Dakpemfong, Buglanfong, Sabonjida, and Victory Wards.
- Polling Station 4: Delegates from Changli, Choggu West, Dohinaayili, Zogbeli, and Lamacara.
Dr. Abukari assured party members that these measures are designed to guarantee a transparent, peaceful, and credible election in line with the NDC’s principles of fairness and internal democracy.
The primary has been necessitated by the tragic death of the sitting MP, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who perished in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, along with seven others.
