Kasoa Court Sentences Three Over WASSCE Exam Malpractice

The Kasoa-Ofaakor District Magistrate Court has handed down prison terms totaling 20 months to three individuals found guilty of engaging in examination malpractice during the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The convicts include Samuel Armah, a teacher at Ghana College SHS, and two university students, Kwame Oteng Nkansah and Amedeka James. They were arrested in Kasoa for various offences linked to the exams.

Armah, who served as an invigilator, was caught with leaked Social Studies Paper 1 answers on his phone and dictating them to candidates. He was fined 80 penalty units in addition to an eight-month prison sentence.

Nkansah, a Level 100 student at Accra Technical University, was sentenced to six months in prison and fined 80 penalty units for impersonating a candidate, Quayson Francis Atta, of Ghana College SHS.

James, a Level 100 student at the University of Ghana, was also jailed for six months and fined the same amount after attempting to write the paper on behalf of his twin brother, Amedeka Justice.

During an inspection at one exam centre, Awutu Senya East Municipal Chief Executive, Seth Sabah Sewornoo-Banini, observed lapses in seating arrangements and pledged to implement stronger measures to curb malpractice. Municipal Education Director, Frank-Etrue Hayford, also condemned the actions and reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the integrity of the WASSCE.
