The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has urged voters in the Akwatia constituency to rally behind the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, Bernard Bediako, in the upcoming by-election.
Speaking to party supporters in Akwatia on Sunday, August 31, 2025, Mr. Debrah conveyed President John Dramani Mahama’s personal appeal to the electorate.
“John Mahama says I should tell you, the people of Akwatia, that he wants to work with the NDC candidate Bernard Bediako in his government,” the Chief of Staff said.
Mr. Debrah’s message formed part of the NDC’s campaign activities ahead of the by-election scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2025, which has drawn keen interest from both the ruling party and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He called on constituents to translate their support into votes, stressing that victory for the NDC would strengthen the government’s partnership with the people of Akwatia in advancing development projects.
The by-election was necessitated by the passing of the area’s Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi.
Already, two independent polls have tipped the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Bernard Boidoo Bediako, as the frontrunner in the Akwatia parliamentary by-election.
A survey by Sanity Africa, conducted between August 1 and 27, places Bediako at 52.3%, against 47.7% for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Solomon Asumadu — a slim 4.6-point lead.
Similarly, Global Info Analytics projects Bediako with 53% support, compared to Asumadu’s 47%, reinforcing the NDC candidate’s edge as voters head to the polls
