The National Peace Council (NPC) has invited the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to a meeting ahead of the Akwatia by-election.
In a letter dated August 30, 2025, the Council requested both parties to attend a short dialogue on Monday, September 1, 2025, at 2 PM in Akwatia. The letter was signed by the Executive Secretary of the Council, Dr. George Amoh.
The meeting is part of the NPC’s efforts to ensure peace and cooperation between political parties during the election period. It follows earlier meetings with the NDC and NPP held in late July.
The letter also reminded the parties that the meeting is in line with a promise the Council made during those earlier talks.
The by-election has become necessary following the death of the sitting NPP MP, Ernest Kumi.
Akwatia, historically a swing constituency, has alternated between the NDC and NPP over the past two decades, making the upcoming contest a major test of political strength ahead of the 2028 general elections.
