Latest survey results from Global InfoAnalytics have placed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Bernard Bediako, ahead in the highly anticipated Akwatia by-election scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
The poll, conducted between August 27 and 28 with a sample size of 2,050 voters, projects Bediako securing 53% of the votes against his closest challenger, Solomon K. Asumadu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 47%.
The by-election, triggered by the passing of the late NPP MP Ernest Kumi von July 7, has attracted nationwide attention due to Akwatia’s reputation as a swing constituency. The seat has alternated between the two major parties over the past two decades, making the contest a crucial barometer ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Global InfoAnalytics noted that voter concerns over unemployment, economic hardship, and limited access to social amenities have become central to the campaign, shaping the leanings of many constituents. The pollster, however, cautioned that undecided voters could still prove decisive, either widening Bediako’s advantage or tightening the race in Asumadu’s favour.
With security agencies assuring strong deployment to prevent violence, the Akwatia by-election is set to be one of the most closely watched political events of the year.
