I Expect More Verbal Attacks in the Coming Years – Bawumia

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has declared that he remains unshaken by persistent verbal attacks from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and even some within his own New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking to NPP supporters after filing his nomination forms to contest the party’s flagbearer race on Thursday, August 28, Dr. Bawumia said political attacks were part of Ghana’s democratic culture and quoted former Prime Minister Kofi Abrefa Busia: “The qualification to be a success in Ghana’s politics includes a large capacity to stomach all sorts of attacks.”

He noted that although many political “arsenals” have already been directed at him, he expects even more in the months and years ahead.

“I am not oblivious to the fact that the NDC, and lately some elements within our own party, subject me to daily attacks. In fact, I expect more in the coming months and years. But if I have learned anything from our history, it is that a man must be formidable so that no matter the adversity, he stands tall, focused, and resolute,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia stressed that all possible criticisms have already been leveled against him, yet time has vindicated him on many issues. He cited acknowledgments from the Bank of Ghana, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and even some NDC figures as proof that his earlier positions were correct.

“As the days go by, time has shown great vindication. What more can they say of me now?” he asked.

He concluded by expressing confidence in his resilience and political journey: “In our history, when all has been said of a candidate and yet he remains standing, victory is the logical next step that awaits him.”
