Former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, has officially filed his nomination to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearership, making a passionate appeal to delegates to focus on party victory rather than public commentary about his candidacy.
Speaking after submitting his forms on Wednesday, August 27, Mr. Agyapong urged delegates to rise above what he described as intimidation and selfish interests within the party, stressing that their choice will ultimately determine the NPP’s chances in the 2028 general election.
“I’m on my knees, I beg you in the name of God, do not listen to what Ghanaians are saying. Vote for Kennedy Agyapong, and victory will be assured for the NPP in 2028. Wherever you go, Ghanaians are crying for Kennedy Agyapong. Don’t allow anyone to intimidate you. Party victory is paramount, so let us unite and select a candidate who can deliver,” he declared.
Call for Unity and Renewal
Mr. Agyapong framed his candidacy as the most viable path to revitalizing the NPP, which has been grappling with internal fractures and dwindling grassroots confidence following its heavy defeat in the 2024 elections.
With the flagbearership race expected to be fiercely contested, his message to delegates emphasized unity, resilience, and the need for a candidate with both national appeal and uncompromising determination.
Party at a Crossroads
The NPP is currently at a critical juncture as it seeks to rebuild its image and restore public trust. The choice of flagbearer is seen by analysts as pivotal to whether the party can mount a strong comeback in 2028.
Kennedy Agyapong’s entry into the race adds another layer of intensity, as the outspoken politician hopes to leverage his popularity among the grassroots to secure victory in the primaries.
