NDC Dismisses Third-Term Bid for Mahama – Asiedu Nketiah

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has dismissed speculation that the party intends to present President John Dramani Mahama for a third term. He stressed that the NDC remains fully committed to Ghana’s constitutional limits on presidential tenure.

“We have never run our party in ways that conflict with the Constitution, and we don’t intend to start now,” he affirmed.

His remarks come amid growing curiosity about the NDC’s succession plans after Mahama’s current term ends in 2029, with names such as Asiedu Nketiah himself circulating in political circles.

On his own ambitions, Mr. Nketiah advised restraint, warning that early campaigning could destabilize the government’s agenda and weaken the party’s electoral chances.

“President Mahama has only been in office for about eight months. If we start fighting over succession now, it will undermine his ability to deliver,” he cautioned.

While acknowledging speculation around potential successors, the NDC Chairman urged leading figures to exercise discipline and allow the current government to focus on its mandate.
