Fire Destroys Over 100 Shops at Suame Post Office Market

A devastating fire has swept through the Suame Post Office market in the Ashanti Region, destroying over 100 shops and leaving traders in shock and despair.

The inferno, which reportedly began around midnight on Tuesday, ripped through the market, consuming goods and properties worth millions of cedis. Eyewitnesses say the blaze intensified after gas cylinders stored in the market exploded, fueling the rapid spread of the fire.

Many traders watched helplessly as their shops and merchandise were reduced to ashes. Some nearby residents attempted to salvage items by forcing open shops before the flames consumed them.

“We called for help earlier, but the fire service came late. By then, everything was gone,” a distraught eyewitness recounted.

Although no casualties have been recorded, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has begun investigations into the cause of the blaze. An update from the GNFS confirmed that 25 out of 44 shops and 192 sheds were destroyed.

The Public Relations Officer of the GNFS in the Ashanti Region, DO II Peter Addai, assured the public that preliminary findings will be made available once investigations are complete.

Meanwhile, traders are counting their losses, with many calling for urgent support to recover from the disaster.
