Hamza Suhuyini, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team, has said that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia may be the best choice to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP), but not the right person to lead Ghana.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, August 27, Suhuyini praised Dr. Bawumia’s calm temperament, composure, and unifying influence within his party, predicting that delegates will likely rally behind him in the NPP’s upcoming primaries.
“In all honesty, Dr. Bawumia stands tall. His temperament is good, calm, and focused on uniting his party. I believe the delegates are likely to give their mandate to him,” Suhuyini remarked.
However, he argued that Bawumia’s strengths do not extend to national governance, pointing to his economic record as Vice President.
“As for leading the country, that is where I disagree. He could not manage the economy, so what new solutions would he bring? Within the NPP, yes—but not for Ghana,” he stressed.
The NPP is scheduled to elect its flagbearer on January 31, 2026, with Dr. Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, and Bryan Acheampong among the key contenders.
Meanwhile, Dr. Bawumia’s aide, Miracles Aboagye, insists the former Vice President remains the NPP’s strongest path to victory in 2028, arguing that his 2024 performance has given the party a firmer electoral base than any first-time aspirant.
