Akwatia Not an NPP Fortress, It’s a Swing Seat – Asiedu Nketiah Declares

National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has rubbished claims that the Akwatia constituency is a New Patriotic Party (NPP) stronghold, insisting it has always been a swing seat since the return to constitutional rule.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face on Tuesday, August 26, he argued that the NDC contests every constituency, including NPP bastions like Bantama and Manhyia, and has often pulled surprises in difficult areas.

“As for those saying Akwatia belongs to the NPP, that does not hold water. If we could file candidates in Bantama and Manhyia, nobody should tell me Akwatia is an NPP seat,” he said.

Mr. Nketiah stressed that the constituency has consistently alternated between the two main political parties since 1992, making it one of Ghana’s most competitive battlegrounds. He expressed confidence in the NDC’s chances in the upcoming September 2 by-election, while assuring that the party will cooperate with security agencies to guarantee a peaceful poll.

The NDC’s parliamentary candidate, Bernard Bediako, has already described the contest as a “done deal” for the opposition party.
