The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has received the final report from the three-member committee that investigated the death of Bavug Salim, a patient at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH).
The committee, set up after allegations of negligence by hospital staff, was given two weeks to complete its work and submitted its findings on Tuesday, August 26.
Presenting the report, committee chairman Dr. Abdul Ibrahim Mohammed said the team held about 12 sittings, during which it engaged the patient’s family, friends, hospital staff at the Accident and Emergency Department, and other key stakeholders.
“We also assessed the protocols and Standard Operating Procedures the hospital had in place,” Dr. Mohammed explained, noting that the details remain confidential until reviewed by the Minister.
Receiving the report, Minister Akandoh acknowledged the public concern the case has generated and assured Ghanaians that the recommendations would be acted upon.
“This became an issue of public concern, but once the committee has sat on it and the report has been presented, the people of this country must know that the report has been presented,” he said.
He added that the findings would be made public at the appropriate time and pledged to ensure the recommendations are implemented to strengthen accountability and improve healthcare delivery across the country.
