The Accra Regional Police Command has announced that eight persons have been arraigned before the Circuit Court in Accra following violent disturbances that disrupted the Ablekuma North Parliamentary re-run election on Friday, July 11, 2025.
The accused persons are:
- Mohammed Abubakari, 32, Private Security Officer
- Tijani Mahamudu, 38, Driver
- Prince Dzakpasu, 39, Businessman
- Anas Mohammed, 42, Estate Developer
- Mohammed Hamda, 35, Mechanic
- Darko Otibu Samuel, 33, Businessman
- Musah Muntari, 46, Station Manager
- Ali Saeed alias Bomba, 43, Businessman
According to the police, all eight admitted guilt to charges of Conspiracy to Commit Crime, to wit: Assault, and Assault, contrary to Sections 23(1) and 84 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The court granted each of the accused bail of GH₵80,000 with one surety, and adjourned proceedings to August 29, 2025.
In a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs at the Accra Regional Police Command, the Service reassured the public of its commitment to justice and maintaining order.
“The Accra Regional Police Command reiterates its commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining peace and order,” the statement said.
The Ablekuma North by-election was marred by pockets of violence, raising concerns about electoral security ahead of the 2025 general elections.
