The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), and other transport unions have withdrawn their planned demonstration over the deplorable state of the Amasaman–Nsawam road.
In a joint statement issued on Thursday, August 21, 2025, the associations explained that the decision follows the contractor’s return to the site to resume construction works on the stretch.
The operators, who had earlier threatened to strike if urgent measures were not taken, said they were encouraged by the government’s intervention and the renewed commitment to fixing the road.
“We commend the Government of Ghana and the relevant authorities for their timely intervention, which demonstrates a commitment to resolving the pressing challenges that affect both transport operators and commuters,” the statement read.
The transport unions assured commuters and stakeholders of their continued collaboration with the government to promote road safety and safeguard lives and property.
They also pledged to support efforts to ensure sustainable road infrastructure development across the country
