No director asked to stay home and draw salary – COCOBOD

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has denied reports suggesting that over 10 of its directors have been asked to stay home while still drawing full salaries, calling such claims false and misleading.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, August 20, COCOBOD responded directly to allegations made by Fiifi Boafo, the former Head of Public Affairs at the organisation, who had claimed during a media interview that several directors had been rendered “almost useless” and sidelined from active duty since the change of government.

“Management wishes to state emphatically that no Director has been asked to stay home and draw salary,” the statement read.

Mr. Boafo had made the remarks during an appearance on Citi Eyewitness News on Tuesday, August 19, stating that more than 10 directors were at home doing no meaningful work, despite being paid regularly.

He described the situation as a waste of public funds and a blow to institutional efficiency.

But COCOBOD insists the claims are baseless. According to the rejoinder, no director is currently on leave, except the former Director of Finance, who, it clarified, had gone eight years without taking any leave and is now doing so as per standard administrative procedure.

The Board also used the opportunity to explain that any recent movements within the organisation’s leadership are not politically motivated but rather part of a strategic realignment aimed at improving performance.

“Management wishes to state that transfers and reassignments are part of strategic realignment to bring efficiency and effectiveness into the operations of the Board,” the statement added
