The High Court in Obuasi has dismissed an election petition filed by former Trade and Industry Minister, Kobina Tahiru Hammond, popularly known as K.T. Hammond, against the parliamentary victory of Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani in the Adansi Asokwa constituency.
Delivering his ruling on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Justice Kwabena Twumasi struck out the case, describing it as a waste of the court’s time, and slapped Mr. Hammond with a GH¢60,000 fine.
Counsel for Mr. Dorani, Richard Andy, welcomed the ruling, stating that the petition lacked merit and that the judgment would allow his client to focus on his parliamentary duties without further distraction.
Mr. Hammond, who had represented Adansi Asokwa in Parliament for more than two decades, lost his seat in the 2024 general elections. He polled 13,275 votes, while the NDC’s Mr. Dorani secured 14,229 votes, winning by a margin of 954 votes.
Unhappy with the outcome, Mr. Hammond filed a petition at the Obuasi High Court on January 15, 2025, seeking to overturn the results. However, his failure to appear in court on three separate occasions contributed to the case being struck out.
The ruling marks a final legal blow to Mr. Hammond’s challenge, effectively securing Mr. Dorani’s hold on the Adansi Asokwa seat.
