An audit initiated by the Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, has uncovered irregularities at Akim Oda Hospital, leading to the facility being sanctioned.
The hospital has been ordered to refund GH¢312,413 to the Authority after it was found to have made fraudulent claims under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The NHIA said the action forms part of its renewed efforts to tighten financial accountability and ensure that funds meant to support affordable healthcare delivery are not siphoned through fraudulent practices.
Dr. Bampoe stressed that such audits are crucial in protecting the integrity of the NHIS, safeguarding public funds, and ensuring that only legitimate claims are honored.
The Authority further cautioned all accredited health facilities to strictly adhere to laid-down claims procedures, warning that any breaches will attract sanctions, including refunds, suspensions, or outright de-accreditation.
