Ghana Armed Forces Dismiss Reports of Brigadier General Michael Opoku’s Arrest

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has refuted claims circulating on social media alleging that Brigadier General Michael Opoku has been arrested by security operatives for possessing ammunition.

In a press release issued on August 19, 2025, the Armed Forces described the reports as false and misleading, urging the public to disregard them.

“The Armed Forces can confirm that Brigadier General Michael Opoku remains an active member of the Ghana Armed Forces and is not under arrest for any crime committed,” the statement clarified.

The GAF further assured the public that any military officer involved in criminal activity would be subjected to the same legal procedures as any citizen of the country.

It also cautioned against the spread of misinformation and disinformation, stressing that such false publications undermine public confidence.

The release was signed by Captain (GN) VA Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces.
