GES Opens Applications for Teacher Promotions to Senior Ranks

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially opened applications for the promotion of qualified teachers and officers to senior ranks within the service.

The promotion exercise, which began today, covers four categories: Deputy Director, Assistant Director I, Assistant Director II, and Principal Superintendent.

According to GES, the opportunity is open strictly to serving teachers who meet the required conditions.

To qualify for promotion:

  • Deputy Director – Applicants must have been promoted to Assistant Director I in or before 2020 and continuously at post since, except for approved leave.
  • Assistant Director I – Applicants must have held the rank of Assistant Director II in or before 2020 under similar conditions.
  • Assistant Director II – Applicants must have been promoted to Principal Superintendent in or before 2020.
  • Principal Superintendent – Applicants must have attained Senior Superintendent I in or before 2020. Teachers with an approved undergraduate degree will automatically be placed at this level.

The service also clarified that teachers relying on Master’s or PhD degrees for promotion must ensure the programme was part of the approved GES course of study. In addition, the certificate must not have been obtained before their last promotion, and only qualifications acquired in or before 2022 will be accepted for promotions to the higher ranks.

Applications are to be submitted online through https://bit.ly/gespromotions2025 or via the official QR code provided by GES.

Each applicant must upload:

  • A passport-size photograph,
  • Their last promotion or appointment letter, and
  • Their highest academic certificate.

GES emphasized that all documents, except the photograph, must be uploaded in PDF format and must be clear and legible.

The application window runs from Monday, August 18 to Friday, September 5, 2025.
