Al-Faruq College of Education Students Demonstrate Over Poor Conditions and Unfair Fees

Students of Al-Faruq College of Education, Wenchi, have expressed deep frustration over what they describe as worsening conditions on campus, calling on school authorities and relevant stakeholders to urgently address their concerns.

In a strongly worded petition, the students outlined several issues that have negatively affected their academic life and general welfare.

Among their key grievances are:

1. Inaccessible Results: Students complain of persistent delays in accessing their academic results, which has caused anxiety and uncertainty about their academic progression.
2. Double School Fees Payment: Unlike most tertiary institutions in the country, students say they are compelled to pay school fees twice a year instead of once, a practice they find burdensome.
3. Lack of Fee Breakdown: The petition highlights the absence of a transparent breakdown of school fees. This, students say, leads to mistrust from parents who doubt whether the monies are being put to proper use.
4. Maintenance Fees Without Maintenance: Despite paying maintenance fees, students lament that broken facilities on campus take months to be repaired, making living and learning conditions difficult.

6. Poor Feeding System: Despite paying feeding fees, students describe the meals served as unbalanced and repetitive. They further accuse the canteen of denying food to students without meal chits, even though payments have been made in advance.
7. Suspended SRC Week Celebrations: For two consecutive years, students have not celebrated SRC Week despite paying SRC dues, a situation they describe as unfair.
8. Inadequate Lecture Halls: Students also accuse management of collecting development fees without undertaking any visible developmental projects on campus, leaving lecture halls overcrowded and inadequate.

The students insist that these challenges have reached a breaking point and must be addressed without further delay.

“Enough is enough. We’re tired of living under these conditions. We need change!” the petition stated.

The petition has been directed to the college management, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), and the Ministry of Education, as students demand urgent interventions to restore confidence and improve living and learning conditions at the college.
