Lawyer Enoch Afoakwa, counsel for Daniel Adomako, popularly known as Sir Obama Pokuase, says his client’s release from custody has been delayed due to ongoing administrative procedures within the Ghana Police Service.
Sir Obama Pokuase was arrested over allegations of circulating images of individuals brandishing illegally acquired firearms. Police say his arrest forms part of a broader intelligence-led operation with other security agencies to crack down on illicit arms possession.
Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Friday, August 15, Mr. Afoakwa explained that the verification of sureties is still in progress, which has slowed the bail process.
He noted that the absence of key CID officials—many of whom attended the state funeral for the eight officials who died in the August 6 helicopter crash—had further contributed to the delay.
“There is a need for written communication between police authorities and the institutions where the sureties work. I was informed that a letter has already been drafted, but it still requires a police officer to sign off and dispatch it,” he said.
While acknowledging the police’s administrative protocols, Mr. Afoakwa stressed that the matter could have been expedited. “They assured me that by tomorrow, work on the process will continue, and we hope everything will be finalised for his release,” he added.
