NPP Grants General Amnesty to Suspended Members, Enforces Two-Year Ban on Internal Elections

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has granted a general amnesty to all party members who were either suspended or facing disciplinary actions, as part of efforts to strengthen unity and reconciliation within the party.

In a directive issued by the Acting National Chairman, Mr. Danquah Smith Buttey, the decision was taken during the National Council’s Emergency Meeting held on Friday, July 25, 2025. The amnesty effectively lifts all suspensions and waives ongoing disciplinary proceedings against affected members.

According to the statement, members who forfeited their membership must formally reapply to the national secretariat for reinstatement. However, such reinstated members will remain ineligible to contest any internal party elections for a mandatory two-year period.

“This measure reflects the Party’s unwavering commitment to fostering internal cohesion, strengthening solidarity, and preparing collectively for the political tasks ahead,” the directive stated.

The statement further cautioned party leadership at all levels against arbitrary suspensions of members, emphasizing that all disciplinary matters should be handled strictly in line with due process and the provisions of the NPP constitution.

The directive concluded with an appeal for cooperation from all party structures to ensure full compliance.
