Miracles Aboagye, aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has accused the Mahama administration of presiding over a worsening illegal mining crisis.
Speaking on Newsfile on JoyNews on Saturday, August 16, Mr. Aboagye argued that despite repeated assurances, the government has failed to halt the destruction of Ghana’s environment.
He claimed the problem has deepened in recent years, with farmlands and water bodies suffering unprecedented levels of devastation.
“Galamsey has escalated under the Mahama administration, and that is a reality we cannot deny,” he stated.
Mr. Aboagye further criticised the government for what he described as a lack of a coherent strategy, accusing it of inconsistency and political expediency.
According to him, weak enforcement of the laws has emboldened illegal miners and eroded public trust in the government’s ability to act.
He urged the administration to demonstrate real political will by taking bold measures to address the menace.
“The country deserves action, not rhetoric. Without strong and decisive leadership, the damage being caused by galamsey will be irreversible,” he cautioned.
