Adutwum picks up nomination forms for NPP flagbearer race

Former Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has formally entered the race for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidacy, picking up nomination forms to contest in the party’s flagbearer election slated for January 2026.

Dr. Adutwum, who served under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as Education Minister, is seeking to lead the party into the 2028 general elections. His bid adds to the growing list of contenders vying to succeed the current leadership.

The Bosomtwe Member of Parliament is widely recognised for championing education reforms, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) development and the expansion of secondary education.

His entry into the flagbearer race is expected to stir debate within the NPP, with supporters pointing to his technocratic expertise and track record in public service.

Meanwhile, on August 13, more than 490 constituency youth organisers of the party — both substantive and deputy — picked up nomination forms on behalf of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the same contest.

The group described Dr. Bawumia as the only candidate capable of securing victory for the NPP in the 2028 polls, citing his “exceptional leadership, proven track record, and vision for Ghana’s future” as reasons for their endorsement.

Their backing follows a strategic meeting on July 29, 2025, attended by representatives from various constituencies across the country
