‘Thanks for Pulling Out of Tamale Central, But Prepare for Defeat in Akwatia’ – Asiedu Nketiah to NPP

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has commended the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for its decision to step aside from the Tamale Central by-election, describing it as a gesture that supports political stability in a tense election season.

Speaking during an NPP delegation’s visit to the NDC headquarters to express condolences over the recent military helicopter crash, Asiedu Nketiah said the withdrawal was appreciated but made it clear that his party was gearing up for a decisive battle in the upcoming Akwatia by-election in the Eastern Region.

“We are grateful for your decision not to contest the Tamale Central by-election,” he noted, before adding, “We want to make it clear that we will fully contest the Akwatia by-election.”

Scheduled for September 2, the Akwatia poll will be held following the death of NPP MP Ernest Kumi, whose election victory had earlier been challenged in court by the NDC.

Asiedu Nketiah expressed strong confidence in his party’s chances of winning the seat, while warning against rising threats of violence from political youth groups, which he said could harm Ghana’s democratic stability.

He urged leaders of both major political parties to rein in their supporters and place national peace above partisan interests.
