Wontumi TV has issued an unreserved apology to former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the general public over unfounded allegations made by one of its presenters regarding a recent tragic military helicopter crash.
In a statement dated Saturday, 9th August 2025, the station clarified that remarks by its on-air presenter, Akyenkwana Nana Kofi Asare, suggesting that the former president had a role in the incident, were baseless and did not reflect the views, policies, or editorial position of Wontumi TV.
“The statement was inappropriate, unfounded, and contrary to our station’s values of professionalism, accuracy, and fairness in broadcasting,” the management said, stressing that the comments were made without evidence.
Wontumi TV expressed regret for the distress and reputational harm caused to President Mahama, the NDC, and the affected families, and assured the public that disciplinary action would be taken against the presenter. The station also announced it had reinforced editorial guidelines to ensure all on-air personalities rely only on verified facts and credible records.
Reaffirming its commitment to the highest standards of journalism, Wontumi TV pledged to continue delivering accurate, balanced, and respectful content to its audience.
The management extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the helicopter crash and urged unity and sensitivity in discussing matters of national grief.
