The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has amended its statutes to allow its president, vice presidents, and Executive Council members to serve up to three terms in office. The decision was approved at the Association’s 31st Ordinary Congress, held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
GFA General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo, explained that the change to Article 37.4 was intended to align the association’s governance structure with FIFA’s model.
According to the revised article, the mandate for the president, vice presidents, and Executive Council members will last four years per term, beginning immediately after the Congress that elects them and ending at the Congress where their successors are chosen.
The statute further states that no person may serve as president for more than three terms—whether consecutive or not. The same three-term limit also applies to all other members of the Executive Council, including vice presidents.
With this amendment, top GFA officials could now serve for up to 12 years if re-elected, a move the association says will strengthen governance consistency while adhering to global football standards.
