Helicopter crash: Asantehene sympathises with Mahama

Asantehene Extends Condolences to President MahamaThe Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has conveyed his heartfelt condolences to President John Mahama following the devastating helicopter crash at Adansi Brofoyeduru, which claimed the lives of two cabinet ministers and six others on a national assignment to Obuasi.

Among the victims were Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence, and Alhaji Mutala Mohammed, Minister of Environment. The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, August 8, 2025, when a military helicopter transporting them from Accra to Obuasi went down.

Speaking at the Manhyia Palace after being officially briefed by the Adansehene, Opagyakotwere Bonsrah Afriyie II, the Asantehene described the tragedy as a matter of national concern.

“This is a national concern, and I sympathize with the President in this difficult moment,” Otumfuo said, stressing that the loss was not only for the bereaved families but for the entire nation, as the victims died while serving Ghana.

Environment Minister Mutula Mohammed and Alhaji Muniru Limuna, Deputy National Security Coordinator, have since been laid to rest.

The Asantehene urged all Ghanaians to unite behind the government during this period of mourning, highlighting the importance of compassion and national solidarity in the face of such a loss.
