Burial Of Murtala Mohammed To Take Place Today, Thursday, August 7 At 10 A.m

The final funeral rites for the late Dr. Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology and Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, will be held today, Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in Tamale.

The Janaza (Islamic funeral prayer) will be performed at the Anbariya Islamic Institute – Nyanshegu, after which the body will be conveyed to the Zujung Cemetery for burial, in line with Islamic customs.

Dr. Murtala Mohammed’s passing has sparked a wave of grief and tributes from political leaders, traditional authorities, and the general public. The families of Alhaji Ibrahim Zeng, alongside NDC leaders and Northern dignitaries including:

  • Alhaji Sharif Savannah
  • Alhaji Baba Sambii
  • Afa Abdul Somed Faarukiya
  • Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Minister for Education & MP for Tamale South
  • Hon. Alhassan Suhuyini, MP for Tamale North
  • Hon. Attah Issah, MP for Sagnarigu
  • Hon. Ali Adolf Mburidiba, Northern Regional Minister
  • Hon. Abubakari Adam Takoro, Mayor of Tamale Metropolis

have all joined in mourning and invited the public to join the final prayers and burial.

Dr. Murtala was widely respected for his dedication to environmental policy, science advancement, and social development. His death marks a great loss to both his constituents and the nation.

May Allah grant him eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus.
