My supporters were protesting bail terms, not defending purported wrongdoing – Adom-Otchere

Former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Paul Adom-Otchere, has rejected claims that public support shown during his recent detention by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) was an attempt to shield him from accountability or place him above the law.

In a viral video released on August 2, 2025, Adom-Otchere thanked individuals who expressed concern for him while in custody. However, the video has sparked criticism from sections of the public, with some accusing those individuals of seeking to interfere with the work of the anti-corruption agency.

Clarifying the intent behind the show of solidarity, Adom-Otchere said on The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Monday, August 4, that the support he received was not an endorsement of his innocence, but rather a protest against what many viewed as harsh and unfamiliar bail conditions imposed by the OSP.

“All those people who I said thank you to, who’d expressed concern; I have seen some spin on social media. They were not expressing the concern that Paul Adom-Otchere has done something wrong and he is above the law and you cannot touch.

“No! They were expressing concern that the bail conditions that the OSP gave were too harsh and unreasonable and actually unknown to the jurisprudence,” he explained.

Adom-Otchere was detained over an alleged procedural breach involving a revenue assurance contract awarded during his tenure as GACL Board Chair. He was initially held for failing to meet bail conditions that included providing landed property in his name.

Following legal negotiations and growing public concern, the OSP revised the terms, allowing the Jospong Group of Companies to stand as surety, leading to his release.

The OSP’s investigation into the matter remains ongoing
