Businessman and former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has officially entered the race to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2026 general elections.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, August 5, in a Facebook post by Kwasi Kwarteng, spokesperson for the Agyapong campaign team.
“Official Update: Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong has officially picked nomination forms to contest in the 2026 NPP Flagbearship race,” the statement read.
Agyapong’s decision to contest reaffirms his sustained ambition to lead the NPP, following his notable participation in the party’s 2024 presidential primaries, where he emerged as a strong contender.
His campaign is expected to revolve around discipline, patriotism, and economic transformation—the same pillars he championed in his previous bid. Supporters anticipate a campaign that taps into his reputation as a straight-talking reformist and defender of accountability within the party and government.
With the NPP’s internal contest gaining momentum ahead of the 2026 general elections, Kennedy Agyapong’s entry is expected to inject renewed energy and debate into the race for the party’s flagbearer position.
