EOCO Seizes Shatta Wale’s Lamborghini in Joint Operation with FBI Over Financial Crime Probe

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has confirmed the seizure of a 2019 Lamborghini Urus from Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale following a joint operation with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Justice (DOJ).

The operation, conducted in June at Shatta Wale’s residence in Trassaco Valley Phase 1, was carried out by EOCO’s Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU). It stems from an ongoing international investigation into financial crimes linked to Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian currently serving an 86-month prison sentence in the U.S. for multiple financial offences.

Authorities from both the U.S. and Ghana maintain that the luxury vehicle was acquired with proceeds from Amuah’s criminal activities and had been traced to Shatta Wale, who is now listed as a person of interest in the case.

EOCO described the seizure as lawful, peaceful, and professionally executed, adding that Shatta Wale voluntarily surrendered the vehicle after appealing to officers not to publicize the action, citing fears it could damage his public image and affect his brand.

Sources within EOCO revealed that it is standard practice for SARU officers to be armed during such operations to ensure safety and compliance. The Lamborghini is currently in EOCO’s custody, pending further legal procedures.

The FBI and DOJ are reportedly preparing to submit a Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) request to the Government of Ghana for the repatriation of the seized vehicle as part of efforts to recover a $4.7 million restitution imposed on Amuah by U.S. courts.

In addition to Shatta Wale, a former senior officer of Ghana’s National Signals Bureau (NSB) has also been identified as a person of interest. Both individuals are expected to be invited by EOCO to assist with ongoing investigations.

EOCO emphasized its commitment to international cooperation in combating financial crimes and stated that a final investigation report may be shared with U.S. authorities in due course.
