DCE stops poorly executed school project in Central Gonja

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Central Gonja, Mahama Fuseini, has ordered ABA MOLE LTD, the contractor working on a six-unit classroom block, to halt construction and restart the project due to substandard work.

The directive came during an inspection tour of district assembly projects on August 4. Mr. Fuseini expressed disappointment over the use of poor-quality materials and the overall construction of the classroom block at Kikale D/A KG Primary and Junior High School in the Sheri Electoral Area.

He noted that the contract for the project was awarded on November 8, 2024, but community members have raised concerns about both the quality and location of the construction.

Speaking to Channel One News, Salifu Haruna, the Assembly Member for Sheri Electoral Area, said neither he nor other key community stakeholders were informed about the project.

“We were not consulted at all,” he said. “The school already has enough classrooms for the primary section. What we urgently need is a Junior High School block. Currently, we are forced to rent a private house for JHS classes.”

Engineer George Edem Awuku Azigli, Head of the Works Department at the Central Gonja District Assembly, confirmed the DCE’s assessment of poor workmanship and said the contractor must begin the work anew.

He also clarified that the District Education Directorate had been duly informed about the construction of the six-unit block at Kikale D/A Primary and JHS
