Emmanuel Awinimi Atesiba, the suspended Pusiga Constituency Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region, has called for the resignation of Regional Chairman Lawyer Anthony Namoo, accusing him of leading the party to a historic electoral collapse.
Speaking in response to his suspension over alleged anti-party conduct, Atesiba dismissed the accusations, describing them as unfounded and politically motivated. He claimed his suspension is a smokescreen to divert attention from what he described as “poor leadership and failed performance” by the regional chairman.
“Under his tenure, we lost all three parliamentary seats in the region. That’s unprecedented. Why hasn’t he resigned for that?” Atesiba questioned.
He also criticized the procedural irregularities surrounding his suspension, arguing that the statement should have been signed by the regional secretary, in accordance with NPP protocols.
“This reflects poor leadership. Namoo is asserting his dominance by preventing the regional secretary from signing official communications. It’s a bad leadership style that has cost us dearly,” he added.
Atesiba further alleged that while he and others were suspended without clear evidence, other party officials—such as the Pusiga constituency chairman, who he claims openly campaigned against the NPP—have faced no consequences.
“It’s unjust. We are being punished without evidence, yet others who openly undermined the party are walking free. I even received threats in my area because of the situation, but nothing was done about it,” he said.
His comments come in the wake of a mass suspension of 16 NPP executives from the Pusiga and Tempane constituencies, who were accused of engaging in anti-party activities, particularly campaigning for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2024 elections.
The decision, led by Chairman Namoo and the Regional Executive Committee, followed a disciplinary hearing held in March 2025 after several complaints were filed in January. The suspended individuals have been barred from holding party office for three to five years, depending on the severity of the charges.
Among the suspended are constituency executives, electoral area coordinators, and members of the Council of Elders, including:
In defense of the action, Chairman Namoo stated that the move was necessary to protect party unity and discipline.
“Engaging in anti-party behaviour means campaigning against our candidates. Those who admit to such acts forfeit their membership,” he declared, emphasizing that the matter remains an internal disciplinary issue.
As tensions rise within the NPP in the Upper East Region, Atesiba’s open challenge signals deeper cracks in the party’s regional cohesion following its complete loss of parliamentary representation in the area during the 2024 elections.
