The National Identification Authority (NIA) has confirmed the payment of the 20% Operational Support Allowance owed to its staff for the period January to July 2025, following a nationwide strike over delayed disbursement.
The strike was sparked by the Ministry of Finance’s failure to commit to a clear timeline for the payment of the allowance, which remains the only financial benefit staff receive beyond their basic salary.
Addressing the media, Williams Ampomah Emmanuel Darlas, Head of Corporate Affairs at the NIA, announced that the arrears have been fully settled.
“I’m happy to announce that the 20% Staff Operational Allowance is being paid, and the arrears from January to July have been cleared,” he stated.
He thanked staff and stakeholders for their patience and solidarity throughout the period of industrial action and reaffirmed the NIA’s commitment to national service.
“The NIA was established to manage a credible, secure, and universal identity system. We assure the public that our systems remain robust and fully compliant with legal and data protection standards,” Darlas added.
The payment is expected to restore normal operations at the NIA, which had seen disruptions in recent weeks due to the strike.
