Police Deny Alleged Raid on Bono East NPP Chairman’s Residence, Clarify Robbery Operation Details

The Ghana Police Service has refuted widespread media reports suggesting that its officers conducted a raid on the residence of the Bono East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), resulting in the death of a civilian.

In a statement released on Saturday, August 2, 2025, the Police described the claim as *“categorically false,”* stating that no such raid was ever carried out on the home of Mr. Ibrahim Baba Bukari, the regional party chairman.

According to preliminary findings by the Bono East Regional Police Command, the incident in question occurred around 1:20 a.m. on Friday, August 1, when officers responded to intelligence about a suspected robbery in progress. The suspects were seen scaling a wall in an attempt to flee the scene.

During the operation, one of the suspects, later identified as Seidu Bukari, sustained a gunshot wound. He was quickly rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Further investigation revealed that Seidu Bukari was a known member of a notorious robbery syndicate operating within Techiman and surrounding communities. The gang is known for stealing motorbikes and transporting them to Kumasi for resale. Bukari was also already on the Police watchlist as an accomplice in an ongoing robbery investigation.

Police say the gang had returned to Techiman to carry out another robbery when they were intercepted. A motorbike and other robbery tools believed to have been used by the suspects were retrieved at the scene.

It was only after the operation that authorities discovered the targeted location was the residence of Mr. Ibrahim Baba Bukari, the Bono East NPP Chairman.

To ensure the integrity and transparency of the operation, the Inspector-General of Police has dispatched a special team from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, the Police Professional Standards Bureau, and the Police Intelligence Directorate to conduct a full and independent investigation into the incident.

The Police Service reiterated its commitment to professionalism and urged the public to disregard misleading information that could compromise ongoing investigations or cause unnecessary panic. A targeted manhunt is currently underway to apprehend the remaining suspects who managed to escape during the operation.
