Minority Criticizes Roads Minister for Allegedly Misleading Road Project Figures

The Minority in Parliament has strongly criticized the Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, accusing him of intentionally misrepresenting data on road construction under the Akufo-Addo administration.

Their reaction follows the Minister’s statement during an accountability briefing on Wednesday, July 30, where he questioned the government’s claim of constructing over 10,000 kilometres of roads, calling it misleading.

In response, the Minority caucus rejected the Minister’s assertion, maintaining that from 2017 to 2024, the government successfully completed over 13,000 kilometres of road projects. These included new roads, asphalt overlays, gravel work, and rehabilitations.

Speaking to the press on the same day, former Roads Minister and current member of the Roads and Transport Committee, Francis Asenso-Boakye, denounced Agbodza’s remarks as political propaganda meant to downplay the previous administration’s accomplishments.

“The statements made by the Minister today are not only deceptive but also reveal a consistent pattern of misinformation and double standards. To claim that President Akufo-Addo’s well-documented road achievements are an illusion is both dishonest and an overt attempt to politicize verified data,” Asenso-Boakye stated.

He emphasized that between 2017 and the end of 2024, the Akufo-Addo administration completed 13,624 kilometres of road projects, a figure that far exceeds the 4,636 kilometres completed during the eight years of the Mills-Mahama era.

The Minority also questioned the Minister’s credibility, accusing him of reversing his position on sole-sourcing in public procurement.
