Edward Koranteng, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), was barred from boarding an international flight at Kotoka International Airport on the night of Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
Immigration officials intercepted Mr. Koranteng after discovering he attempted to travel abroad without obtaining clearance from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), which is currently investigating him.
According to sources, he had been placed on a travel “stop list” due to his involvement in an ongoing investigation. His unauthorized travel attempt triggered an airport alert, prompting swift action by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), which notified the OSP.
He was subsequently taken into custody by the OSP for further questioning.
While specific details of the case remain undisclosed, Mr. Koranteng’s placement on enquiry bail indicates that the investigation likely involves serious corruption-related allegations.
Back in February 2025, the OSP named Mr. Koranteng in a corruption probe alongside former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), in a wide-ranging investigation into suspected financial misconduct.
